Mt Keira

Mount Keira's subtropical rainforest is an ideal location for students to engage in outdoor investigations. Mount Keira lookout offers extensive views across the Illawarra coastal plain and the rock formations on the southern side of the mountain are excellent for geography studies.

Walking the Dave Walsh track from the summit to the scout camp is recommended for those seeking an action-packed day connecting with nature.

Mount Keira scout camp provides a protected pocket of interesting and diverse rainforest for all ages, but especially ideal for younger children to explore.

Transport Information

  • Bus access via Queen Elizabeth Drive, Mount Keira for excursions commencing at Mount Keira Summit.
  • Bus access via Mount Keira Scout Camp (off Mount Keira Road) for excursions commencing at the scout camp.
  • Please note - talk to your bus company about bus access to the scout camp as the road in is narrow with a low clearance. If the company has not been to this location before they will need to know the following:
    • Very large buses may not be able to enter.
    • Entry into the scout camp private road can only be accessed by buses travelling up Mount Keira Road from Keiraville.  Buses arriving coming down Mount Keira Road (from Sydney or Picton) will need to continue past the Scout Camp entry until they reach the archery range where there is space to turn around and return up the hill.
    • Once in the scout camp car park there is adequate space for buses to turn around.

Illawarra EEC offers the following programs at Mount Keira
